Arctic Glaze ltd install custom secondary glazing to block exterior noise entering the Dolby Voiceover Studio in Soho
Noise from busy roads and railways can be problematic, especially for a prestigious voiceover studio located in Soho, London. The Dolby Voiceover Studio required an acoustic solution to block noise entering the listed property which showcased single glazed period timber windows.
Arctic Glaze ltd were contracted by Granada Glazing to provide an acoustic installation to help the recording studio block external noise from entering the building. After the initial survey, Arctic Glaze recommended the installation of heritage hinged units with 16.8mm acoustic laminated glass.
To provide optimum acoustic performance, the secondary glazed system needed to be installed with a 200mm air cavity. This cavity provides additional acoustic insulation between the primary window and secondary glazed unit.
To ensure a neat and unobtrusive aesthetic, the secondary glazed system was installed within the window reveal, a black timber trim was installed to the window surround.
Hinged units are often installed with traditional box sash windows as they provide minimal sightlines and a discreet aesthetic from the exterior of the building. They feature one pane of glass where the glazed panel is supported with either butt or invisi-hinges.
This secondary glazed system is installed with multi-point locking designed to substantially increase the building's security. To prevent draughts and noise from entering the building, a discreet nylon strip sits between the secondary glazing’s outer frame and glazed panel.
Listed properties with single glazing often install secondary glazing as it provides enhanced acoustic and thermal insulation.
Properties with poor acoustic and thermal insulation can greatly benefit from the installation of bespoke secondary glazing, if specified and installed correctly an 80% sound reduction and 60% increase in thermal insulation can be obtained. Furthermore, the aluminium frames can powder coated in over 200 RAL colours which provide a scratch-resistant finish that is easy to maintain and clean.
