Secondary glazing is a slim and versatile window system designed to reduce heat loss and increase acoustic insulation. It is manufactured from durable aluminium and powder coated to a marine finish which provides a durable and long-lasting life span. Maintaining and cleaning secondary double glazing is a simple process and will help maintain the glazing system and provide years of trouble-free servicing. Our range of secondary glazing can be cleaned in minutes where no specialist equipment or tools are needed.
Arctic Glaze’s range of secondary glazing is exceptionally durable and is practically maintenance-free. How you maintain and clean secondary glazing is dependent upon which style you have installed. As your secondary glazed system may house moving parts, we recommend that silicone spray is applied to all moving parts every six months. This will help to keep a smooth and silent operation while improving the lifespan of all moving parts. A durable powder coat finish protects our range of secondary double glazing. As a minimum, we advise that it is cleaned with warm soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth every six months.
In short, no, cleaning and maintaining secondary glazing is a quick and straightforward process. Arctic Glaze’s range of aluminium secondary glazing is exceptionally durable and is backed up with a five-year warranty on frames and glazing and a two-year warranty on moving parts.
As a minimum, we advise that our range of bespoke secondary glazing is cleaned and maintained every six months. Maintaining includes using silicone spray to lubricate any moving parts. Cleaning with a non-abrasive cloth and soapy water can be done monthly, preventing a dust build-up within the aluminium tracks and keeping your secondary glazing looking as good as the day it was installed.
Low-E glass features a microscopic coating that is designed to increase thermal insulation by reflecting heat back into the room. To prevent damaging this coating, we recommend you ONLY use warm soapy water which is SOLVENT FREE and a clean, non-abrasive cloth. The use of solvent cleaners of any kind or an abrasive cloth can damage the microscopic coating.
PLEASE NOTE: When lifting out any removable panels, please bear in mind the glazed panel's potential weight. Larger window panels with thick acoustic glass can be heavy. If you are unsure how much the individual glazed panels weigh, we would recommend that two people lift out the glazed panels.
We recommend a quick monthly clean with warm soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth. Horizontal sliders feature lift out panels where each and every panel can be lifted out of the durable aluminium surround.
Once all panels are removed from the aluminium surround and cleaned, we advise that you spray the air duster on each brass wheel positioned on the bottom of each glazed panel, this removes any dust and debris. Proceed to spray the silicone spray on each brass wheel and within the aluminium tracks within the bottom of the aluminium surround, this will provide a smooth and quiet opening operation. Finally, re-position the glazed panels within the aluminium surround.

To ensure a smooth and quiet operation, we recommend that you use a silicone spray on the spiral balances every six months. To do this, simply slide the top panel down, spray the silicone spray into the spiral balances tubular housing – four in total. Once completed, close the panels.
To ensure a smooth locking action please open the glazed panel, the glazed panel features a black multi-point locking mechanism, spray the locking mechanism with the solvent spray. If your hinged unit features an invisi hinge (pictured in the image below), please spray this with the solvent spray. Once done you can close the window.
