Secondary Glazing for Listed Properties

Secondary glazing for listed properties is designed to retain the character and charm of the period building whilst having a positive impact on both thermal and acoustic insulation. Historic England often recommend the installation of secondary double glazing as it doesn’t alter the original fabric of the building and maintains its original aesthetics. Modern secondary glazing is slimline by nature and manufactured to be durable and match the style and function of all period windows. It can be powder coated in over 200 RAL colours and is available in a gloss, satin or a matt finish.

Balanced vertical sliders are designed to work in conjunction with traditional box sash windows, the glazed panels are supported by durable spiral balances which will hold the panel open in any given position. They are manufactured to the size specification of the primary window, this means the sightlines mirror those of the primary window which makes the secondary glazing unobtrusive and discreet.

Secondary glazing for listed properties is manufactured from slimline aluminium, this provides enhanced security and means our windows can be manufactured to larger sizes. The installation of secondary glazing has grown in popularity as it can reduce noise levels by up to 80% and drastically increase a buildings thermal insulation.

Secondary double glazing can be customised to meet the needs of the project, if thermal insulation is a concern, we would recommend the installation of Low-E glass. This glass is designed to provide enhanced thermal insulation by reflecting heat back into the room. We can also supply and install hinged units with a double-glazed sealed unit, this will give you all the benefits that double glazing provides whilst maintaining the aesthetics of the period building. To provide optimum acoustic performance we would recommend the installation of 6.4mm Laminated Acoustic Glass, this glass houses a PVB interlayer and absorbs noise from close by vehicles.
